University

Allison Mansion, located on the campus of Marian University in Indianapolis, Indiana, was originally built between 1911 and 1914 as the country estate of James A. Allison, a co-founder of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and an automobile industry pioneer.

The mansion, called "Riverdale," is a large two-story Arts and Crafts style red brick home with a red tile roof and features unique amenities such as a sunken conservatory, indoor swimming pool, and sunken marble aviary. The estate's landscape was designed by noted landscape architect Jens Jensen, known for his Prairie-style approach.

After Allison's death, the estate was sold to the Sisters of St. Francis in 1936, who used it for Marian College, the institution that later became Marian University. The mansion served as the primary building for the college until 1949, later housing the library, art department, and then a hospitality center.

Today, the Allison Mansion is used as an event and conference center and houses the university president's office. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places for its architectural and historical significance and stands as a symbol of early 20th-century entrepreneurship and cultural heritage in Indianapolis.
