The mining industry, which included silver, lead, and copper extraction, was the town's economic backbone, producing millions in ore value until the resources began to deplete in the late 1890s. After a devastating fire in 1889 and declining ore production, the town was largely abandoned by 1910.
Located in a narrow canyon over 6,000 feet above sea level, Bayhorse is now part of the Land of the Yankee Fork State Park and is notable for being one of the best-preserved mining ghost towns in the western United States, with remnants of buildings and mining equipment accessible for public exploration.
