Hiking Area
The Goodhue Pioneer State Trail Trailhead provides access to a multi-use rail trail in southeast Minnesota, with key starting points at Pioneer Road near Red Wing for the 4-mile northern paved segment through hardwood forests and Hay Creek Valley, and at Covered Bridge Park in Zumbrota for the 5.5-mile southern paved section past farmland and prairies.
This developing 10-mile trail, part of a planned 47-mile route along an abandoned railroad corridor, supports hiking, biking, horseback riding on adjacent natural paths, snowmobiling, and skiing amid scenic bluffs, oak savannas, and wildlife like deer, eagles, and turkeys.
Parking is available at Hay Creek Trail pull-offs, the Hay Creek Day-use Area in Richard J. Dorer Memorial Hardwood State Forest, and West Avenue near Highway 58 in Zumbrota, connecting to the Cannon Valley Trail.
