Casino
Mountaineer Casino Resort, located on the Ohio River north of New Cumberland in West Virginia's northern panhandle near the Ohio border, spans 77 acres of wooded hillside and pioneered the U.S. racino model as the first racetrack to add slot machines in 1994 after opening as Waterford Park thoroughbred track in 1951.
Originally developed in the late 1930s but delayed by World War II steel shortages, it evolved through ownership changes including Bill Blair's 1987 renaming to Mountaineer Park, added table games like blackjack and roulette in 2007, and a 2019 sale to Century Casinos (operations) and VICI Properties (real estate) for $385 million.
The full-service resort features a one-mile dirt track with seven-furlong turf course for live horse racing, a large casino with 3,200 slots and 50+ tables, hotel rooms and suites, an 18-hole golf course, spa, fitness center, restaurants, and a 5,100-seat events venue drawing visitors for gaming, racing, and entertainment.
