Bridge
The Perrine Memorial Bridge in Twin Falls, Idaho, is a four-lane truss arch bridge spanning 1,500 feet across the Snake River Canyon with a deck height of approximately 486 feet above the river, making it the eighth highest bridge in the United States.
It connects Twin Falls County with Jerome County along U.S. Highway 93 and was completed in 1976 to replace an older steel cantilever bridge built in 1927. The original bridge was privately funded as a toll bridge but was purchased by the state of Idaho in 1940, after which tolls were removed.
The current bridge, costing around $10.56 million at the time, is notable for its impressive size and height, serving more than 32,000 vehicles daily and standing as a significant engineering landmark. It is named after Ira Burton Perrine, a key figure in the development of irrigation projects in the Magic Valley and founder of Twin Falls. Remnants of the original bridge remain visible near the canyon.
The modern Perrine Bridge is also famous as a popular site for base jumpers due to its height and accessibility.
