Waterfall
Ruby Falls is an 85-foot-tall underground waterfall located within Ruby Falls Cave inside Lookout Mountain near Chattanooga, Tennessee.
It was discovered in 1928 by Leo Lambert during efforts to create a tourist cave entrance, and he named the falls after his wife, Ruby. The cave and waterfall were formed millions of years ago through the erosion of limestone rock by groundwater. Visitors enter the cave via an elevator that descends about 260 feet, then take guided tours through the cavern featuring stalactites, stalagmites, and other natural formations, finally reaching the spectacular illuminated waterfall.
Ruby Falls is the tallest and deepest underground waterfall open to the public in the United States and remains a popular attraction blending geological wonder and human history.
