Science Museum
The Center of Science and Industry (COSI) in Columbus, Ohio, opened in 1964 in the historic Memorial Hall building, inspired by Sanford N. Hallock’s vision of a science museum similar to the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago.
After 35 years, COSI moved in 1999 to a modern 320,000-square-foot facility designed by architect Arata Isozaki along the Scioto River in the Franklinton neighborhood. It features over 300 interactive exhibits across themed areas like Ocean, Space, Gadgets, and Life, creating hands-on, discovery-based learning experiences that blend science education with fun for all ages.
Since its founding, COSI has welcomed millions of visitors and continues to evolve with innovative programming, including an annual science festival and adult-only events, making it one of the nation’s leading science museums.
