Art Gallery
The Chauvin Sculpture Garden in Louisiana is a unique outdoor folk art environment created by self-taught artist Kenny Hill between 1988 and 2000.
Located in the small fishing community of Chauvin along Bayou Petit Caillou, the garden features nearly 100 life-sized concrete and brick sculptures including angels, soldiers, cowboys, and figures of personal and religious significance, which together form a deeply autobiographical and symbolic landscape.
Hill, a bricklayer and Vietnam veteran, infused his work with themes of faith, life, and personal struggle. After abandoning the site around 2000, the garden was preserved and restored with support from the Kohler Foundation and is now managed by Nicholls State University.
The garden is free and open to the public year-round, providing visitors a rare glimpse into the creative vision of an outsider artist, blending art, culture, and nature in a peaceful bayou setting about 25 minutes south of Houma. It has become a cultural landmark and a place for reflection and community events, celebrated for its powerful artistic expression and unique contribution to Louisiana’s folk art scene.
