Historical Place
Ed Galloway's Totem Pole Park in Foyil, Oklahoma, is a unique folk art environment created by Ed Galloway between 1937 and 1961, featuring the world's largest concrete totem pole standing about 90 feet tall.
The totem pole is built on the back of a giant turtle and decorated with nearly 200 bas-relief images depicting Native American portraits, symbols, and animals, painted in vibrant colors. The park covers about 14 acres and includes several concrete totems, two ornamental concrete picnic tables with animal-shaped seats, a barbecue, and four sets of animal-form gateposts.
A distinctive eleven-sided "Fiddle House" stands on the property, which once housed Galloway's hand-carved fiddles, furniture, and bas-relief portraits of US presidents. Originally a manual arts teacher and craftsman, Galloway was inspired by Native American culture and designed the park to educate and provide a welcoming place for visitors, especially young people and Boy Scouts.
After falling into disrepair, the park was restored by the Rogers County Historical Society and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1999. It remains a free, public outdoor attraction celebrating Galloway's visionary folk art and cultural tribute.
