Park
Roman Nose State Park is Oklahoma's oldest state park at 633 acres in Blaine County near Watonga, named for Cheyenne chief Henry Roman Nose who died there in 1917, featuring dramatic gypsum cliffs, canyons, three natural springs including the prolific Spring of Everlasting Waters, and two lakes—83-acre Lake Watonga and smaller Lake Boecher.
Built in 1937 by the Civilian Conservation Corps as one of seven original parks, it offers an 18-hole canyon golf course, lodge with restaurant, cabins, over 90 RV and tent campsites, canoe/kayak/paddleboat rentals, mountain biking, horseback riding, trout fishing in season, hiking trails, two swimming pools (one historic CCC pool open summers), amphitheater, picnic areas, playgrounds, and abundant wildlife like whitetail deer, wild turkeys, herons, owls, hawks, and bald eagles.
No-wake boating and no lake swimming are allowed, making it a serene destination for golfing, nature walks, birdwatching, and family retreats amid cedar forests, blue sage, and striking red rock formations.
