Castle
Hearst Castle, officially known as La Cuesta Encantada or "The Enchanted Hill," is a grand historic estate located in San Simeon, California. Conceived by publishing magnate William Randolph Hearst and designed by pioneering architect Julia Morgan, its construction began in 1919 and continued intermittently until 1947.
The castle features 165 rooms, 127 acres of gardens, ornate pools including the Neptune Pool, terraces, and walkways. Hearst amassed a legendary art collection displayed throughout the estate, including Egyptian, Greek, Roman antiquities, Renaissance ceilings, and European paintings. Famous for hosting Hollywood stars and political dignitaries, the estate became a California State Park and museum in 1958.
It draws about 750,000 visitors annually and is recognized as a National Historic Landmark. The castle is admired for its architectural grandeur, rich history, and cultural significance on the Central California Coast.
