Standing 726 feet high and 1,244 feet long at the crest, it was the tallest dam in the world at completion and remains a major engineering marvel. The dam created Lake Mead, one of the largest artificial lakes, and its hydroelectric power plant generates over 2,000 megawatts supplying electricity to Nevada, Arizona, and California.
