Waterfall
Laughing Whitefish Falls State Park spans 960 acres in Michigan's Upper Peninsula near Sundell in Alger County, centered on its namesake 100-foot fan-shaped waterfall cascading over a limestone escarpment along the Laughing Whitefish River.
Established in 1946 and managed by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources within the Escanaba River State Forest, visitors access the falls via a half-mile hike through beech-maple woods to three observation platforms, including a steep 137-stair wooden staircase to the lower deck.
This undeveloped scenic site also features 2.5 miles of trails linking to the North Country Trail, old-growth white pine and hemlock groves, and winter ice formations, ideal for hiking, photography, and quiet nature immersion eight miles south of Lake Superior.
