Mt. Cuba Center in Delaware is a nonprofit botanical garden focused on the conservation and appreciation of native plants and their habitats, located near Wilmington in the Delaware Piedmont region.
The center spreads over 50 acres of formal and naturalistic gardens and more than 1,000 acres of surrounding natural lands. It features diverse garden areas including woodlands, meadows, ponds, and specialized trial gardens used for horticultural research on native plant species such as Coreopsis, Heuchera, Baptisia, and Trillium.
Established originally as a private estate in the 1930s by Pamela and Lammot du Pont Copeland, Mt. Cuba transitioned to a public garden in 2013. The center also offers educational programs, research initiatives, and scenic trails that highlight the ecological importance and beauty of native plants, making it a significant institution for conservation and public engagement in the mid-Atlantic region.
