Aquarium
The Oklahoma Aquarium in Jenks, a southern suburb of Tulsa, Oklahoma, spans 72,000 square feet and opened on May 28, 2003, as a vision from founders Dr. P.R. Ramey and Doug Kemper dating back to 1984, funded by local philanthropists, city leaders, and tax dollars to create the region's largest indoor ocean with over 10,000 animals from 500+ species in 1 million gallons of tanks.
Highlights include the world's largest bull shark exhibit in a 500,000-gallon architecturally unique tank with a walk-through tunnel, Sea Turtle Island with loggerhead turtles and zebra sharks, Extreme Amazon for freshwater species, Ozark habitats, coral reefs, invertebrates, and Oklahoma-native aquatic life like otters and beavers, plus interactive features such as touch tanks, a hurricane simulator, and virtual reality rides.
The facility draws around 410,000 visitors yearly for education on marine conservation, animal encounters, and research like bull shark and coral studies, open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. (until 9 p.m. Tuesdays) at 300 Aquarium Drive.
