Formed about 200,000 years ago, it offers year-round hiking on three trails totaling over a mile through juniper and sagebrush to a pancake-flat summit with 360-degree panoramic views of the city, high desert, Newberry Volcano, and Cascade peaks including the Three Sisters, Mount Jefferson, Black Butte, and Mount Hood.
A seasonal paved road provides drive-up access from mid-April to October, plus amenities like vault toilets, picnic areas, a playground, interpretive panels, and connections to regional trails.
