Port of Leonardtown Winery, located in Leonardtown, Maryland within a repurposed historic commercial building in the Port of Leonardtown Public Park, operates as a cooperative winery made up of 12 member vineyards from across St. Marys, Calvert, Charles, and Kent counties.
Established in 2009 with the first crush and opening for sales in 2010, it is the first commercial winery in St. Mary's County and focuses exclusively on wines made from locally grown Maryland grapes. The winery is recognized for award-winning wines including its red blends and Cabernet Franc, garnering multiple gold and double gold medals at the Maryland Governor’s Cup competition.
Managed by winemaker Lauren Zimmerman, who brings over 20 years of experience and formal education in enology and viticulture, the winery blends traditional and hybrid grape varieties, producing distinctive wines known for their rich, jammy fruit flavors influenced by the warm Southern Maryland climate.
The tasting room offers a welcoming, urban winery atmosphere with live music, food trucks, local cheese platters, and art displays, making it a popular destination that supports local agriculture and contributes to the community’s cultural and economic vitality.
