Sea Turtle, Inc. is a nonprofit sea turtle rescue and rehabilitation center located on South Padre Island, Texas.
Founded in 1977 by Ila Fox Loetscher, known as the "Turtle Lady," it is dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and releasing sick and injured sea turtles. The organization also focuses on educating the public about sea turtles and marine conservation and conducts applied research to support conservation efforts. Sea Turtle, Inc. is home to several non-releasable resident turtles and treats more than 100 sea turtles annually, most commonly juvenile Atlantic greens.
It gained recognition for pioneering sea turtle prosthetics and played a critical role during the 2021 Texas freeze, rescuing thousands of cold-stunned turtles. The center welcomes around 250,000 visitors annually, serving as both an ecotourism and educational hub committed to the survival of sea turtles native to the Gulf of Mexico and beyond.
