Lake
Silverwood Lake is a high‑elevation reservoir in San Bernardino County created in the early 1970s by Cedar Springs Dam as part of the State Water Project to store and move water through the California Aqueduct system, supplying nearby mountain and desert communities and supporting hydroelectric operations.
The lake and its 2,400 acres of surrounding recreation land form Silverwood Lake State Recreation Area, which offers boating, fishing, swimming beaches, picnic areas, hiking trails, campgrounds and a marina with launch facilities. Sitting around 3,350 feet above sea level, Silverwood is the highest reservoir in the State Water Project and blends pine‑forested mountain scenery with high‑desert chaparral, making it a wintering site for bald eagles and habitat for many bird species.
Fish advisories have been issued in the past because of elevated mercury and PCB levels in some species, so visitors should consult current health guidance before consuming catch.
