Winterplace Ski Resort in Ghent, West Virginia, opened in 1983 on Flat Top Mountain as the southernmost ski resort in the state and is conveniently located just off Interstate 77 between Beckley and Bluefield.
It offers more than 90 skiable acres with 27 trails catering to all skill levels, supported by 10 lifts and a terrain park. The resort has a top elevation of approximately 3,600 feet and a vertical drop of 603 feet, with an average annual snowfall of about 65 inches, supplemented by a 50-million-gallon water reservoir for snowmaking.
Winterplace is known for its welcoming atmosphere for beginners and also provides night skiing on nearly all slopes. In addition to skiing and snowboarding, it features the largest snow tubing park in West Virginia with 16 lanes. The ski season typically runs from December through March, with exact dates depending on weather conditions.
