Army Museum
The 45th Infantry Division Museum, now part of the Oklahoma National Guard Museum in Oklahoma City, originated from a 1965 state law and opened in 1976 at the historic Lincoln Park Armory, a Works Progress Administration site from 1937 that once housed Guard units including the division's headquarters.
It chronicles Oklahoma's military history and the famed Thunderbird Division—formed in 1920 from National Guard units in Oklahoma, Arizona, Colorado, and New Mexico—through exhibits spanning World War II campaigns in Italy, France, and Germany like the liberation of Dachau, Korean War trench battles, and later conflicts up to Desert Storm, featuring uniforms, dioramas, Bill Mauldin's original WWII cartoons, and the vast Jordan B. Reaves firearms collection from the American Revolution onward.
The 27,000-square-foot complex on 15 acres includes a connecting building for collections, a Hall of Flags on early forts and commanders, a gift shop, and an outdoor Thunderbird Park displaying over 60 vehicles, tanks, aircraft, artillery pieces, and a 40-foot monument honoring division veterans, all free to visit with self-guided tours from Tuesday through Sunday.
