Park
Antelope Valley Indian Museum State Historic Park is a unique state park in Lancaster, northern Los Angeles County, California, built directly into Piute Butte's rock formation by homesteader and artist H. Arden Edwards in 1928 as a chalet-style folk art structure listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Open since 1932 as California's regional museum for Great Basin Indian cultures, it houses over 8,000 rare artifacts from more than 120 Native American groups across the Southwest, Great Basin, and California regions—linked by the Antelope Valley's ancient trade corridor—showcasing baskets, pottery, tools, and contemporary works collected by Edwards and later owner Grace Oliver.
Visitors explore exhibits inside the rustic building, a self-guided nature trail around the boulder-strewn desert landscape, picnic areas, and an outdoor ceremonial arena, with weekend hours from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., $3 admission, and special events like fall ground blessings and artist demonstrations.
