The Beehive House in Salt Lake City, Utah, was the official residence of Brigham Young, the second President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served as the executive mansion of the Utah Territory from 1852 to 1855.
Built in 1854 and designed by Truman O. Angell, the same architect behind the Salt Lake Temple, the house is named for the distinctive beehive sculpture on its roof, which symbolizes industry and cooperation—a symbol that later became emblematic of Utah. The home accommodated Brigham Young’s large family, including his polygamous wives, and also served as a place where Young conducted official business and entertained dignitaries.
After Young’s death, the house was transformed into housing for young women affiliated with the church and was restored in the late 1950s to serve as a historic house museum with many original furnishings, offering free guided tours that showcase life in 19th-century Utah and the legacy of Young’s leadership.
