Park
Steinaker State Park is a Utah state park located about 7 miles north of the town of Vernal in Uintah County, roughly 181 miles east of Salt Lake City at an elevation of about 5,500 feet.
The park centers on Steinaker Reservoir, an 825‑acre lake created by the Central Utah Project that provides year‑round water recreation, including fishing, boating, waterskiing, wakeboarding, swimming, and paddle sports. The surrounding landscape is high desert and badlands with juniper, sagebrush, and cacti, and wildlife such as deer, coyotes, badgers, and raptors can be seen around the reservoir.
The park offers a campground with around 31 RV sites, restrooms, showers, picnic areas, a sandy beach, boat ramp, fish‑cleaning stations, and access to nearby attractions like Dinosaur National Monument, Flaming Gorge, Red Fleet State Park, and the Utah Field House of Natural History Museum, making it a popular base camp for exploring northeastern Utah’s “Dinosaurland” region.
