Park
Big Ridge State Park in Union County, Tennessee, covers 3,687 acres along the southern shore of Norris Reservoir, an impoundment of the Clinch River formed by Norris Dam in 1936.
Developed in the 1930s by the Tennessee Valley Authority, National Park Service, and Civilian Conservation Corps as a demonstration recreational area, it opened in 1934 with rustic stone-and-log structures and now offers hiking on over 15 miles of trails, fishing and boating on the park's 45-acre Big Ridge Lake, swimming, camping, cabins, picnicking, and historical sites like the restored 1825 Norton Gristmill and Indian Rock.
The rugged, forested landscape in the Appalachian Ridge and Valley region provides scenic views, wildlife watching, and remnants of pre-TVA settlements.
