Ski Resort
Big Sky Resort in Montana opened in 1973, founded by retired NBC newscaster Chet Huntley, who envisioned a premier ski destination centered on Lone Mountain.
The resort started with four lifts and has expanded significantly over the years to cover more than 5,800 skiable acres, including challenging expert terrain and beginner areas. In 1976, Boyne Resorts purchased the property and developed it into one of North America’s largest ski resorts.
Major milestones include the construction of the Lone Peak Tram in 1995 for access to the summit, the opening of Moonlight Basin in 2003 which was later acquired to create an extensive ski area, and the addition of modern lodging, dining, and conference facilities.
Today, Big Sky offers diverse recreational opportunities year-round and remains a top destination for skiing, snowboarding, and summer outdoor activities.
