State Park
Brown County State Park is Indiana's largest state park, spanning nearly 16,000 acres of rugged hills, ridges, and fog-shrouded valleys in southern Indiana.
Known locally as the "Little Smokies" for its resemblance to the Great Smoky Mountains, the park is famous for spectacular fall foliage with miles of tree-lined roads and scenic overlooks. The park offers a rustic atmosphere enriched by historic structures and trails built by the Civilian Conservation Corps during the 1930s.
Visitors can enjoy hiking on over 18 miles of trails of varying difficulty, mountain biking on more than 30 miles of trails, horseback riding on extensive bridle paths, fishing in two man-made lakes, and picnicking in numerous areas. It also features a nature center exhibiting rare species such as the timber rattlesnake and yellowwood tree, which grows in protected preserves within the park.
The Abe Martin Lodge with its indoor aquatic center, nearby cabins, and campgrounds provide accommodations. The park's natural beauty, rich biodiversity, and recreational opportunities attract about 1.2 million visitors annually, making it a cherished destination year-round.
