Historical Place Museum

Brucemore is a historic 26-acre estate and mansion in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, built between 1884 and 1886 by Caroline Sinclair, widow of industrialist Thomas M. Sinclair.

Originally called the Sinclair Mansion or Fairhome, it later became known as Brucemore after George Bruce Douglas, the second owner, who expanded the property and made significant architectural and landscaping improvements. The estate includes a 21-room Queen Anne-style mansion, formal gardens, a children’s garden, pond, orchard, and woodland.

Through the 20th century, it was home to three prominent families who influenced the region’s industrial and cultural life. Now a National Trust Historic Site, Brucemore operates as a museum offering tours, educational programs, and events that showcase the lives, styles, and contributions of its former residents as well as the history of Cedar Rapids.
