Park
Caledonia State Park spans 1,125 acres across Adams and Franklin Counties in southern Pennsylvania, situated midway between Chambersburg and Gettysburg along U.S. Route 30, nestled in South Mountain at the northern end of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Named after the historic Caledonia Iron Furnace owned by Thaddeus Stevens in the 19th century, it preserves remnants like the furnace stack, blacksmith shop, and charcoal hearths from the iron-making era, with many roads and facilities built by the Civilian Conservation Corps during the Great Depression.
The park offers diverse recreation including an 18-hole golf course, a swimming pool, tent and trailer camping, 10 miles of hiking trails (featuring part of the Appalachian Trail), picnicking, fishing in local creeks for trout, and hunting on 740 acres for deer, turkey, squirrels, and rabbits (groundhog hunting prohibited).
It's also home to the Totem Pole Playhouse summer theater and borders Michaux State Forest for extended exploration amid orchards and woodlands.
