Formerly a coal mining site turned state park in 1954 and designated a vehicular recreation area in 1971, it caters to dirt bikes, ATVs, UTVs, 4x4s, and dune buggies with required safety gear, spark arrestors, and green/red stickers, plus family-friendly kid tracks and camping for 100 vehicles.
Open daily from 8 a.m. to sunset (gates close at 6 p.m. in summer) except Wednesdays for maintenance, it charges $5 day use and $10 nightly camping with showers and restrooms, drawing riders for its challenging layout near Tesla Road while ongoing general plan updates address trail expansions and resource protection.
