Park
Caswell Memorial State Park is a 258-acre preserve along the Stanislaus River in southern San Joaquin County, California, southwest of Ripon, protecting one of the Central Valley's last intact riparian oak woodlands that once spanned the region.
Established in 1958 after landowner Thomas Caswell's family donated 134 acres in the 1950s, it safeguards endangered species like the riparian brush rabbit, alongside birds, deer, and abundant mosquitoes, with summer highs often exceeding 100°F.
The park offers 65 year-round campsites for RVs up to 24 feet and tents at $45 nightly with hot showers, flush toilets, picnic areas, and river beaches for swimming, fishing, kayaking, hiking shaded trails, and biking, open daily from 8 a.m. to sunset with quiet hours from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
