Beach
Cayucos State Beach is a protected 16-acre stretch of wide white-sand shoreline in the quaint beach town of Cayucos, San Luis Obispo County, California, along Highway 1 between Morro Bay and Cambria.
Anchored by a historic 982-foot fishing pier built in the 19th century by Captain James Cass, it welcomes swimming, surfing, tidepooling, windsurfing, jogging, birdwatching, and pier fishing without a license, with lifeguards on duty in summer, picnic tables, playground, restrooms, showers, and leashed dogs allowed.
Established in 1940 near ancient Chumash village sites, this day-use-only beach—free of entry fees or annual passes—stays cooler than inland areas, offering a laid-back vibe amid mild weather and nearby antique shops, restaurants, and the Morro Bay Museum of Natural History.
