Ensign Peak

Ensign Peak, Utah, United States

Mountain Peak

Ensign Peak is a dome-shaped mountain peak located just north of downtown Salt Lake City, Utah, standing at an elevation of about 5,414 feet.

The peak is part of a small range of hills called the Salt Lake Salient, which extends from the larger Wasatch Range and forms the northern boundary of the Salt Lake Valley. It is historically significant because, just two days after arriving in the valley in 1847, Brigham Young and other Mormon pioneer leaders climbed the peak to survey and plan the layout of the city below.

Today, Ensign Peak is part of a nature park with a popular short hiking trail about half a mile long that leads to the summit, offering panoramic views of Salt Lake City, the surrounding mountains, and the Great Salt Lake. At the summit, a monument commemorates the pioneers' arrival, and the site is a peaceful, accessible spot for hiking and reflection close to the city center.
