Park
Folsom Lake State Recreation Area is a large, multi‑use park in the Sierra Nevada foothills about 25 miles east of Sacramento that surrounds Folsom Lake and nearby Lake Natoma and offers year‑round boating, fishing, swimming, hiking, cycling, equestrian trails, and picnic and camping facilities.
The recreation area covers roughly 19,000–19,500 acres with about 75 miles of shoreline and more than 100 miles of trails (including a 32‑mile paved bike path linking to Sacramento area parks), and it supports both motorized boating on Folsom Lake and primarily non‑motorized, slow‑speed recreation on Lake Natoma.
Popular activities include sailing, kayaking, paddleboarding, water skiing, bass and trout fishing, and lifeguarded swimming at designated beaches such as Granite Bay, while Beals Point Campground and other sites provide year‑round or seasonal camping and visitor services.
The park contains historic features like the Folsom Powerhouse and varied wildlife—deer, raptors and waterfowl—so visitors should plan for hot summer weather, check seasonal fees and area-specific rules (speed limits, permits, and camping reservations), and contact park offices for current conditions before visiting.
