Park
Gaviota State Park sits on the Gaviota Coast about 30–33 miles west of Santa Barbara and protects roughly 2,700–2,800 acres of coastal shoreline, steep canyon backcountry, and grassy ridges that link to Los Padres National Forest.
The park features a secluded sandy beach with a historic railroad trestle and pier, a campground with roughly 39–41 sites and restrooms/showers, natural hot springs, tidepools, and nearly a dozen hiking, biking, and horseback trails that climb to scenic overlooks such as Gaviota Peak (about 2,461 feet).
Visitors enjoy swimming, surfing, fishing, birdwatching, and exploring wind caves and tafoni formations, but should note variable coastal weather and occasional wind advisories, restricted areas to protect wildlife, parking and day‑use fees, and amenities that are more limited than at larger urban beaches.
