Tourist Attraction
Hole 'N' The Rock in Utah is a fascinating roadside attraction carved out of a massive sandstone rock by Albert Christensen and his brother Leo in the 1940s.
Located 12 miles south of Moab on Highway 191, this 5,000-square-foot home features 14 rooms built inside the rock, including a fireplace with a 65-foot chimney, a bathtub carved from stone, and antique furnishings. It began as a small alcove for the Christensen family but grew into an elaborate living space through 12 years of hand drilling and blasting.
After Albert’s death in 1957, his wife Gladys developed the site into a popular tourist destination, adding a gift shop, petting zoo, and unique collections of desert artifacts and sculptures.
The attraction also includes a diner that operated until the mid-1950s and features quirky roadside memorabilia. Today, visitors can take guided tours of the home and enjoy the eclectic mix of history, art, and natural beauty that embodies this one-of-a-kind Utah landmark.
