Park
Iron Range Off-Highway Vehicle State Recreation Area, Minnesota's only state-managed off-road park, spans 1,864 acres (with a 3,500-acre expansion underway) east of Lake Ore-be-gone near Gilbert in St. Louis County on former iron ore mining land reclaimed since 1981.
Established in 2002, it features 36 miles of multi-difficulty trails—from easy recreational paths to rocky climbs, mud pits, and hill challenges—designed for all OHV classes including ATVs, dirt bikes, 4x4 trucks, and ORVs, with amenities like a wash station, training areas, and event spaces for competitions.
Open year-round with no camping or alcohol allowed, visitors must register vehicles and expect iron-stained gear amid stunning views of mine pits, tailings basins, and Iron Range landscapes teeming with northern woods wildlife.
