Tourist Attraction
Keahiakawelo, also known as the Garden of the Gods, is an otherworldly rocky landscape located on the northwestern side of Lanai, Hawaii. About a 45-minute drive from Lanai City, it features a surreal terrain with towering boulders and rock formations shaped by thousands of years of erosion, creating a lunar-like, almost Martian landscape.
According to Hawaiian legend, the landscape is the result of a fire contest between two ancient priests, which has contributed to its mystical significance. The site is best visited at dusk when the setting sun casts brilliant reds and purples on the rocks, and on clear days, visitors can enjoy panoramic views of neighboring islands Molokai and Oahu.
Access requires a four-wheel-drive vehicle, as the unpaved Polihua Road leads to the site, and visitors are advised to be respectful of the cultural importance of the area, avoiding rock stacking or removal.
