Park
Kings Gap Environmental Education Center is a 2,531-acre Pennsylvania state park on South Mountain in Cumberland County's Cooke, Dickinson, and Penn townships, about 2.5 miles from Pennsylvania Route 233.
Acquired in 1973 through The Nature Conservancy from the C.H. Masland carpet company estate—including the historic Cameron-Masland Mansion with sweeping Cumberland Valley views—it opened in 1977 as one of four state environmental education centers offering hands-on programs for schools, teachers, adults, and families on ecosystems, wildlife, and conservation.
Open daily from dawn to dusk year-round, it features over 20 miles of hiking trails across mountainous forests, picnicking, hunting, a permanent orienteering course, an educational garden with herbs and wildlife habitats, birdwatching, and facilities for meetings, weddings, and overnight lodging.
