Centered on a star-shaped 145-acre lake built in 1950 by the state's Division of Fisheries—with 7.5 miles of shoreline, up to 36 feet deep, and fed by a 4,500-acre watershed of Indian Creek tributaries—it supports excellent fishing for largemouth bass, bluegill, redear sunfish, crappie, channel catfish, and more through regular stockings and habitat management.
Purchased by the state in 1948 after Native American Woodland and Paleo sites were uncovered, it offers boating rentals, three campgrounds, picnicking, hiking trails, trapping on all acres, birdwatching amid oaks, hickories, and wildflowers, and a peaceful retreat blending history, nature, and outdoor recreation.
