Beach
Lighthouse Field State Beach in Santa Cruz is a small coastal park on the north end of Monterey Bay that overlooks the famous Steamer Lane surf break and contains the Santa Cruz Surfing Museum housed in the Mark Abbott Memorial Lighthouse.
The 38-acre site is one of the last open headlands in an urban area, offering grassy picnic areas, paved bluff-top walking and bike paths, wildlife viewing (including wintering monarch butterflies and sea lions offshore), and seasonal lifeguard coverage with public restrooms and outdoor showers.
The park is free to visit year‑round, hosts community events like the annual “Caroling under the Stars,” and allows leashed dogs in some grassy areas while protecting sensitive habitats on the bluff.
