Park
Lincoln Trail State Park covers 1,023 acres in Clark County, Illinois, two miles south of Marshall just west of Illinois Route 1, named for the historic trail Abraham Lincoln's family followed from Indiana to Illinois in 1831.
Once home to Native American groups like the Miami, Kickapoo, and Mascouten before early 19th-century land cessions, its centerpiece is the 146-acre Lincoln Trail Lake—Illinois' third man-made lake created in 1955-1956 up to 41 feet deep under federal funding—offering boating with 10-horsepower motor limits, fishing, a launch ramp, dock rentals, and a concession stand.
Acquired starting in 1936 and dedicated in 1958, it features wooded ravines, prairie openings, pine and hardwood plantations, the 20.5-acre American Beech Woods Nature Preserve with rare wildflowers like squaw-root and beech drops, 204 campsites, hiking trails, hunting on 857 acres, and winter sports amid diverse habitats.
