Park
Los Angeles State Historic Park (often called LA State Historic Park or the Cornfield) is a 32‑acre urban open space on former Southern Pacific rail yards near Chinatown and Union Station that preserves layers of Los Angeles history—from Tongva village lands and 19th‑century agricultural “cornfields” to industrial rail use—while offering accessible green space, winding pathways, and views of downtown.
The park was acquired and cleaned up through long community advocacy and planning, opened as a state park in the 2010s, and now combines lawns and sculpted topography with interpretive features and plans for cultural and environmental programming to serve surrounding, historically underserved neighborhoods.
Visitors use the park for walking, biking, community events, and informal recreation, and future phases include interpretive centers and expanded amenities that connect the site’s ecological, cultural and media‑arts goals to the city fabric.
