Park
Marsh Creek State Park (also called Marsh Creek State Historic Park or Cowell Ranch/John Marsh) protects a large swath of rolling grasslands, oak‑studded hills and riparian habitat in Contra Costa County centered on the historic John Marsh ranch site, preserving the 1856 John Marsh House and thousands of acres of natural landscape that link the Diablo Range to the Sacramento–San Joaquin Delta.
The park is primarily day‑use and not fully developed for public access yet, but planned features include hiking and equestrian trails, interpretive opportunities about early California settlement and ranching history, wildlife habitat for birds and native mammals, and connections to regional trails and restoration projects in the Marsh Creek watershed.
Visitors should note the site’s limited current public access (check opening status), no camping in most areas, seasonal conditions and parking or reservation rules before planning a trip.
