Park
Mendocino Headlands State Park wraps around the seaside village of Mendocino and protects roughly 347 acres of dramatic coastal bluffs, secluded beaches, rocky islets and tidepools that offer sweeping Pacific views and frequent whale and seabird sightings.
Miles of cliff‑top trails and short loops lead past sea arches, hidden grottoes and wildflower meadows down to Big River Beach and Portuguese Beach, while the park’s Big River unit extends inland along both banks of the Big River to create an extensive wildlife corridor and estuarine habitat.
The Ford House Museum and visitor center sits on the headlands with historical exhibits and park information, the area is day‑use only with no camping, and visitors should come prepared for changeable coastal weather, respect seasonal wildlife protections, and check current access and parking details before visiting.
