Science Museum
The Michigan Science Center in Detroit is a hands-on science museum founded in 1970 with the mission to inspire curiosity and learning in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) for visitors of all ages.
It features over 200 interactive exhibits, live science shows, the sixth oldest operating IMAX Dome theater, a 4D moving theater, and a Dassault Systemes planetarium. The museum has undergone several expansions and renovations, most notably in 2001 and after reopening in 2013 following a brief closure in 2011 due to financial difficulties. It also includes educational programs and housed the University Prep Science and Math Charter School until its recent transition.
As a Smithsonian affiliate, the Michigan Science Center combines engaging exhibits with a commitment to community outreach and STEM education, making it a vibrant cultural and educational hub in Detroit’s Midtown cultural district.
