Park and Garden
The Minneapolis Sculpture Garden is an 11-acre urban park adjacent to the Walker Art Center, featuring over 40 permanent and temporary modern sculptures.
Opened in 1988 and expanded in 1992, it is one of the largest urban sculpture gardens in the United States. The garden is famous for the iconic "Spoonbridge and Cherry" sculpture by Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen, a whimsical and much-photographed centerpiece.
The site was originally part of a parade ground and later the location of the Armory and a stadium before being transformed into a sculpture garden. A major renovation completed in 2017 enhanced the garden’s layout and landscaping to make it more open, sustainable, and visitor-friendly, including pollinator gardens and improved access.
The garden is free to the public, open daily, and offers a blend of art, nature, and urban life, making it a beloved cultural landmark in Minneapolis.
