Park
Mont Alto State Park is Pennsylvania's oldest state park, spanning 24 acres in Quincy Township, Franklin County, near the town of Mont Alto and surrounded by Michaux State Forest.
Designated as the state's first state forest park in 1902, it originated from the site of the historic Mont Alto Iron Furnace built in 1807 and later served as a popular mountain resort with a swimming pool, carousel, and trails, as well as a tuberculosis sanatorium founded by forestry pioneer Dr. Joseph Rothrock.
Today, this quiet park offers picnicking under a unique circular pavilion, trout fishing in the West Branch of Antietam Creek, short easy hiking trails with native plant gardens and memorials, and access to nearby forest activities like hunting and snowmobiling.
