Building
The Montana State Capitol in Helena was constructed between 1896 and 1902 in a Greek neoclassical style using Montana sandstone and granite.
It was designed by architects Charles Emlen Bell and John Hackett Kent after a design competition, with later additions of wing annexes built from 1909 to 1912. The building features a prominent copper-covered dome topped by a statue known as Montana or Lady Liberty. Inside, the rotunda displays murals representing Montana’s early history, including depictions of Native Americans, pioneers, miners, and cowboys.
The Capitol serves as the home of Montana’s state legislature and stands as an important symbol of the state's government and heritage. Over the years, it has retained its architectural grandeur and historical significance, being listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
