Mountain Peak
Mount Blue Sky, formerly known as Mount Evans, is a prominent mountain peak in Colorado's Rocky Mountains with an elevation of 14,266 feet (4,348 meters).
It is located about 13 miles southwest of Idaho Springs and is part of the Mount Evans Wilderness, straddling Clear Creek and Jefferson counties. The mountain is visible from over 100 miles away and dominates the Denver skyline, rising more than 9,000 feet above the city. Mount Blue Sky is notable for having the highest paved road in North America, which leads near its summit, making it accessible for visitors who want to experience spectacular alpine views without technical climbing.
The peak was renamed in 2023 to honor Native American tribes, replacing its prior name linked to a controversial historical figure. The area is popular for hiking, scenic drives, wildlife viewing, and mountaineering, featuring diverse landscapes like glacier-carved valleys and high alpine terrain.
